Edith Magdalena Moore, 76, of Newport News

Edith Magdalena Moore, affectionately known as Edie, passed away on April 4, 2026, in Newport News, Virginia, at the age of 76. Born on April 20, 1949, on a military base outside of Oklahoma City, Edie lived a life marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering spirit.

Edie devoted nearly 30 years of her professional life to the Department of the U.S. Army, where she was known for her strong will, independence, and caring nature. Her colleagues and friends admired her commitment and strength, qualities that defined her both personally and professionally.

A woman of many interests, Edie found joy in collecting angel figurines and portraits, a passion that brought her peace and happiness. In earlier years, she delighted in collecting Beanie Babies and could often be found exploring thrift stores to add to her cherished collections. An avid reader, Edie loved visiting the library and had an impressive collection of books that reflected her lifelong love of learning.

Edie was a devoted member of Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church, where she found community and spiritual fulfillment. She pursued her education with determination, earning an Associate’s Degree in English from George Mason University, a testament to her love of literature and learning.

Family was at the heart of Edie’s life. She was a beloved grandmother to Donovan Moore, who brought immense joy to her days. She is survived by her father, James Noble; her son, Christopher Moore; her brother, Clifford Moore, and his wife, Julia; and her nephew, Logan Noble. Edie was preceded in death by her mother, Sophia Noble, and her brother, Donald Maddox Jr.

Edie’s legacy is one of strength, love, and resilience. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

A memorial service to honor Edie’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at 2pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home- Denbigh Chapel located at 12893 Jefferson Ave. Newport News, VA 23608.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the local library or a charity of choice in Edie’s name, celebrating her love for reading and community.

Edie will be remembered as a strong, independent woman whose caring nature touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
