Barbara Gail Beverley Coates was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. In her early twenties, she completed her training in Florida to become a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, and her home base became New York City.
Here she met her husband-to-be Richard John Coates. They married on August 5, 1967, then welcomed a daughter, Beverley Elizabeth (Curtis), and a son John Richard (Kimberly). They raised their children in Setauket, New York where she was a long-time employee of General Accident Insurance. They retired to Williamsburg, Virginia and enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, and meeting new friends.
In 2021, Barbara moved to Brookdale Senior Living where she enjoyed her new friends, lively bridge games, and nice cool glasses of Chardonnay.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard in 2009, and is survived by her children and their spouses, her grandchildren, and her sister Susan and her family.
