Arlie Barber Wynne Jr. (Vincent Funeral Home)

Arlie Barber Wynne, Jr., 89, surrounded by family and friends, passed peacefully into heaven on March 30, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born August 19, 1936, to the late Arlie Barber Wynne, Sr and the late Myra Beatrice Wright Wynne of Mobile, Alabama.

Arlie was of the Christian faith and a Methodist by choice. He was a 50-year member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons at the Mann Page Lodge #157 in Providence Forge, VA.

During high school, Arlie drove a school bus. As a young man, Arlie served four years in the United States Coast Guard as a gunner’s mate 3rd class, stationed in Norfolk, VA. On one leave to home he hitched a ride back to Norfolk with some family friends, the Ishams. He was smitten by the oldest daughter, Alice Ann Isham. After frequent weekend leaves spent in Richmond, VA courting Ann, they married on July 2, 1957. Arlie and Ann lived in a cozy house in Ocean View until Arlie’s Coast Guard service was complete.

After leaving the Coast Guard and returning to Alabama Arlie began his career as a bus driver with the Mobile (AL) Transit Company. Arlie and his little family returned to Richmond in 1961 where he briefly drove for Trailways on a part time basis. In 1967 Arlie joined Greyhound Bus Lines in Richmond, VA where he spent 25 years in transportation. His favorite trips were with school, church, and other group charters.

After retirement from Greyhound, Arlie used his mechanical problem-solving skills as head of maintenance for several rental and senior living communities. He also helped many family members, friends, or neighbors who had an issue with anything mechanical, electrical, automotive, or plumbing related.

Arlie was an ardent University of Alabama fan. His other favorite teams were the University of Georgia Bulldogs and whoever was playing Auburn University. Roll Tide!

Arlie’s survivors include his wife, Alice Ann Isham Wynne, daughters Regina Talley (Jimmy) of Providence Forge, VA, Mary Margaret Wilson (Charles) of Berkeley Springs, WV, and Sarah Norris (Jim) of Frederick MD, grandchildren Virginia Smith (Joshua) of Marana, AZ, Richard Talley (Ashby) of Providence Forge, VA, Vincent Norris of Frederick, MD, great grandchildren Evan Smith of Marana, AZ, Joseph, Christopher, Brent, and Clayton Talley of Providence Forge, VA.
