It is with heavy hearts and profound admiration that we announce the passing of Harry Andre Ling, who left this world peacefully on April 4, 2026, at the age of 88. Born in Michigan on July 27, 1937, Harry spent his final days surrounded by loved ones in Norfolk, Virginia, after bravely battling illness.
Harry dedicated his life to service, proudly enlisting in the United States Marine Corps where he reached the esteemed rank of Major. His years in the Marines were marked by honor, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to his country until his well-earned retirement. His sense of duty and discipline carried over into every aspect of his life, making him not just a soldier, but a beacon of strength and resilience to those who knew him.
Outside of his distinguished military career, Harry was also an avid fisherman, particularly enthusiastic about bass fishing. He found serenity and joy in casting lines out on the water, a pastime that mirrored the calm yet determined way he navigated life’s many challenges.
A man of faith, Harry’s spiritual strength never wavered, even without a formal church home. His values were deeply rooted in honor, structure, and discipline, which he imparted to his family and all whose lives he touched.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Blanche, and his beloved son, Jeff. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Catherine—affectionately known as Kitty—his children Linda, James, and John; his grandchildren, Amy Jo, Brian, Amber, Katrina, Morgan, Peggy, and Connor; and four precious great-grandbabies, Phoebe, Landon, Maisie, and Willow. Additionally, he leaves a legacy of love with numerous extended family members and a host of dear friends who will forever remember his wisdom and kindness.
Harry will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia. Those wishing to celebrate his life and share in honoring his memory may reach out to the family for service details.
Though we will forever miss Harry’s presence among us, we all find solace in knowing, with a smile and a tear, that he’s gone fishing. He carries with him the peace he loved so much, now casting his line into eternal waters.
Harry’s enduring spirit and the love he bestowed upon us will remain everlasting. We cherish his memory and rejoice in the remarkable life he lived.
