Gloria Jean Hyatt (Altmeyer Funeral Home)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gloria Jean “Grammie” Hyatt, 82, on April 5, 2026, in Newport News, VA. Born in New Hampshire, Gloria brought warmth and joy to everyone she met throughout her life.

Gloria was a woman of simple pleasures, finding joy in the little things that life had to offer. She had a passion for bingo, where she spent many evenings enjoying the camaraderie and excitement of the game. Her love for game shows was well-known among her family and friends, and she rarely missed an episode of her favorites. Gloria also had a knack for word puzzles, spending countless hours solving crosswords and other brain teasers with remarkable skill.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 18 years, Carlton Hyatt, and her daughter-in-law, Darlene Gagne, Gloria leaves behind a family who cherished her deeply. She is survived by her children, James Gagne and Bobbi Wright (Gerry), and her grandchildren, Heather, Kenny, Shauna, and Matthew. Gloria was also blessed with three great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy. Her dear friend of the family, Joanne Judd, will miss her dearly.

Grammie’s legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Carlton, in a private ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Gloria’s memory by spending time with loved ones, playing a game of bingo, or enjoying a quiet moment by the sea, watching the light from a distant lighthouse.
