Arthur Ambrose Garcia Jr., affectionately known as “Artie” by his family, passed away peacefully at his home in Norfolk, Virginia, on March 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 62 years old. Artie was born on May 14, 1963, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Arthur A. Garcia Sr. and Mary A. Mendoza. He lived a life defined by dedication, faith, and deep love for his family.

Artie humbly served his country in the United States Navy for 22 years, achieving the rank of Gas Systems Technician First Class (GSM-1). He was stationed in Guam as well as in Virginia, Illinois, and Florida. During his time stationed in Florida, he also worked as a part-time realtor. His strong work ethic, commitment to service, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

In his free time, Artie enjoyed fixing computers, cooking for loved ones, and especially grilling steaks for family gatherings. He loved singing and listening to music, hunting for antiques and interesting finds, and talking with friends and neighbors. Artie had a unique sense of humor and a distinctive way of seeing the world and was truly one of a kind. He especially enjoyed watching the sunset over the Lafayette River from the home he shared for 23 years. He was a devoted member of the Mt. Zion Kingdom of Yahawah and held a deep and unwavering love for the Almighty Creator ABA YAHAWAH. Above all else, Artie treasured his family and found great joy in spending time with them.

Artie was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Arthur A. Garcia Sr. and Mary A. Mendoza. He leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Dioscora V. Garcia. He is also survived by his children: Hallelujah Healy (Matthew) of Oak Harbor, Washington; Hosanna Rejoice Garcia Sones of St. Paul, Minnesota; and HopeAnn Glory Garcia of Newport News, Virginia. Artie was a humble and loving grandfather to Isa Sones, Adrian Sones, Lily Healy, Zoey Healy, and Daniel Healy, who brought him great joy. He is also survived by his siblings: Katherine Love of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Aurora Brusseau (Charles) of Tijeras, New Mexico; Christine Ochoa; and Gabriel Leon Garcia (Esperanza) of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Artie will be laid to rest at a later date in the Philippines.

Arthur’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace, embraced by the love of his family and the Almighty Creator ABA YAHAWAH he faithfully served.
