George Raymond “Ray Ray” Lovell, 73, of Mathews County, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026. He was born on November 26,1952 to the late Charles and Eleanor Lovell.
Ray was raised in West Point, VA and attended West Point High School. He moved to Richmond, VA where he and Judy Marshall Lovell raised their two girls. Before retiring to Mathews VA, he worked for W.W. Nash & Sons.
He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and his friends at the marina on Gwynn’s Island.
Ray was preceded in death not only by his parents, but also by his sibling, Judy Lovell Willis, and his daughter, Marcella Marie Wingfield.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Seay Diebel (Daniel); his grandsons, Austin Seay, Mason Diebel and Cole Hall; a granddaughter, Jillian Wingfield; a great-grandchild, Rylie; sisters, Betty-Faye Walton and Nancy Marshall; a devoted and life-long friend, Phillip Willis; and many nieces, nephews and his four-legged buddy “Shorty.”
