Marko Branko Tubikanec, 20, of Newport News

Marko Branko Tubikanec (Weymouth Funeral Home & Crematory)

With broken hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Marko Branko Tubikanec on February 21, 2026.

In just twenty years, Marko lived a life that left a mark many could not in a lifetime. He was a light in the lives of everyone who knew him, the kind of soul whose laugh was contagious, whose hugs felt like home, and whose presence could turn even the most ordinary day into something brighter. To know Marko was to love him.

Marko graduated from Warwick High School in 2024 and continued his education at Regent University while working alongside his family. Whether in the classroom, at work, or anywhere he went, he had a rare gift for making people feel seen, heard, and valued. Customers would linger just to talk with him, drawn to his warmth, his easy smile, and the sincerity in his heart.

He was fiercely proud of his Croatian and Serbian heritage. A pride that lived not just in words, but in how he carried himself, how he loved his family, and how he honored the traditions and stories passed down to him. His roots grounded him, and his love for his culture was something he held close.

Marko found joy in life’s simple and thrilling moments; blasting music from his car with the windows down, summer nights that felt endless, late-night gaming sessions filled with laughter, pickup soccer games with friends, and the roar of engines from the cars and bikes he admired. He dreamed big, loved fiercely, and felt everything deeply. A young man still discovering his path, filled with dreams that stretched far beyond the horizon.

But above all else, Marko loved his family and his people. He was a devoted son, a protective brother, a cherished grandson, nephew, cousin, godson, and friend. His love was steady and generous. He showed up. He checked in. He embraced tightly. His family finds comfort in knowing he understood how deeply he was loved and that he returned that love tenfold.

He will be laid to rest beside his grandmother, Mara. He leaves behind his loving father, Igor; his mother, Milica; his stepfather, Jovani and brother, Julian. He was cherished by his great-grandmother, Mirjana; his grandparents, Branko, Zoran, Zorica, and Dee Magdalina; his uncle, Vladan and auntie, Olivera; his uncle, Josip; Jordin; his sister, Ivanna; his godparents and their families, and the extended families: Kovacevic, Begovich, Tubikanec, Prkut, Bircic, Radovanovic, Danojevic, De Jesus, Dautovic, along with countless friends who became family.

Marko’s faith in God became a quiet anchor in his life. He carried his love for the Lord not in loud proclamation, but in the way he lived; with compassion, humility, forgiveness, and an open heart. His faith shaped his character and guided his steps, reminding him to love deeply, serve others, and trust even when life felt uncertain. In moments of joy and in times of struggle, he leaned on his belief, finding strength and peace in knowing he was never alone. That faith now comforts his family, trusting that he rests in God’s eternal embrace.

The ache of his absence is immeasurable. There are no words big enough to hold the grief of losing someone so young, so vibrant, so deeply loved. Yet alongside the sorrow lives immense gratitude for the laughter, the memories, the lessons, and the unconditional love he gave so freely.

Though his time here was far too short, Marko’s spirit will continue to echo in every shared story, every summer sunset, every engine’s roar, and every moment of courage and kindness inspired by his memory. His light does not end here. It lives on in all of us.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever twenty.
