James Darrell Tulloch, 85, of Yorktown

James Darrell Tulloch passed away in the comfort of his home on February 23, 2026.

He was born in April of 1940, in Sweetwater, Tennessee, to Glen Walter and Maggie Lucille French Tulloch.

After school, Darrell enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 until December 1963 serving as a Jet Fighter Mechanic during the Vietnam era. After the Air Force he was hired at the Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, into the Shops Maintenance Division. He participated in several training courses at work, including some in OPM’s Executive Management Program. He also attended courses at Christopher Newport College.

Advancing through several supervisory positions he was promoted to Director of Operations in the Public Works Department. During the last year of his career, the Maintenance Operations at Yorktown were consolidated into the Navy Public Works Center, Norfolk, from which he retired in June of 1997 with 35 years of service. Upon retirement, Darrell was honored with receiving the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award and medal.

Darrell was dedicated to serve the Lord in his faith and service as a Deacon and Trustee at the Northampton Church of Christ for many years. In later years he also attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church to assist his aging Mother-in-Law, Frances Basta. He endeavored to help others less fortunate not only through monetary contributions but physically working to improve their home environment in repairs and remodeling. He was a member of Monitor Lodge 197 of the Masonic Fraternity and earned his Fifty Year Certificate on June 14, 2017.

He was the proud father of three daughters Lynette, Lori, and Leslie. In later years he enjoyed becoming a grandfather to Gavin (Ashley), Conor (Ryan), TJ (Courtney), Emily (Grayson), Preston (Shannon), Taylor and Mason. He enjoyed taking the grandchildren on fishing trips on the York River and trips to the museums in the local area. In recent years, he was blessed with the birth of Great-Grandchildren Branson, Blake, Brody, Charlie, Molly, JT and Davis. Recently he was blessed to find out that Gavin and Ashley Washburn are expecting the birth of their daughter” Foster” in July.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Maggie Lucille French Tulloch, brothers William and Walter; sisters Betty Ruth and Carolyn. Surviving is his spouse of 30 years Rosemary Basta Tulloch; his sister Virginia Caldwell; his daughters Lynette Washburn (Tony), Lori Tulloch and Leslie Willett (Todd) along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
