James “Jim” C. Wills Jr., 81, of Lanexa VA, passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. Wills and Mary Ann Hubbard Wills; and his aunt, Jean Hubbard. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Kathy Wills and their daughters, Maryanne and Ashleigh Wills.
Jim was born on August 27,1944 in Clearwater, Florida. Upon graduating from Clearwater High School, he joined the US Army Corp of Engineers, ultimately serving in Okinawa, Japan. He returned to Florida and worked as a surveyor for the City of Clearwater Engineering Department. After moving to New Kent, Jim went to work for the Virginia Department of Transportation, retiring as a Utilities Inspector.
Growing up in the sleepy little beach town of Clearwater, Jim developed a passion for the outdoors and love of nature. As his hometown grew in popularity with both vacationers and new residents, he moved with his young family to rural New Kent in search of space and a more natural environment.
Jim had a deep knowledge and love of wildlife. He loved the water, fishing & hunting. He developed an interest in gardening and was very proud of his bounty of tomatoes, sweet corn and cantaloupe.
He enjoyed his retirement years appreciating the sights and sounds of nature from his back porch. Even after health issues developed over these last years, he still had a favorite window where he could keep watch of the activity across the fields.
Interment will be in Clearwater, Florida.
