Lida E. Gilley (Crumpler), born on January 31, 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, in Moyock, North Carolina, at the age of 80. She was a proud graduate of Virginia Beach High School, Class of 1963. Her life was a testament to love, dedication, and resilience, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
Lida built a fulfilling career as an Affiliate Planner with STIHL Inc., where she devoted 35 years of her life until retirement. Her commitment and work ethic were admired by colleagues and friends, inspiring many in her professional sphere.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lida’s true passion lay with her family, who meant the world to her. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and extended family, nurturing them with boundless love and kindness.
Preceded in death by her father, Roy Crumpler; mother, Eva Steadman (John); brother, Billy Crumpler; beloved husband, Joel; fiancé, Clay Warren; and loyal dog, Muffie, Lida now rests peacefully in their embrace.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family: her devoted children, Vickie Soyars (Skip), Dennis Waterman (Danielle), and Candace Smith (Bill); cherished grandchildren Amber (Jerry), Christian, Natalie, and Joshua; adored sister, Judy Smith (Steve); nephew, Scott James; nieces; and great-grandson, Jaxon Nunez.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 12th, at Princess Anne Memorial Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at 12:00 PM where family and friends will gather to celebrate Lida’s remarkable life.
As an alternative to flowers, the family asks in Lida’s memory that we consider a donation to our local animal shelter, or donations to Shriner’s Children.
