Gary Wallace Brown, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025, in Newport News, Virginia, at the age of 81. Born on June 26, 1944, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Gary lived a life full of adventure, learning, and service.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Army for 22 years, dedicating his career to transportation logistics. His service took him across the globe, with deployments in Vietnam, Germany, and Korea. His commitment to his work and his country was unwavering, and he carried the values of duty and honor throughout his life.
A man of many interests, Gary was an avid reader and history buff, always eager to learn and explore new ideas. He had a passion for motorcycles and camping, often combining these loves on adventurous trips. Photography was another of his cherished hobbies, capturing the beauty of the world around him. Gary also enjoyed building model airplanes, playing the guitar, and indulging in his love for cars and computer programming. His fondness for cheese was well-known among family and friends.
Gary held a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, a testament to his intelligence and dedication to learning. He was also a member of a gun club in New York, where he shared his enthusiasm for marksmanship and camaraderie.
Preceded in death by his beloved parents, Wallace E. Brown and Delores Koehler Brown, Gary leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his cherished wife of 58 years, Kuncha Brown; his son Eric Brown and daughter-in-law Melany; his daughter Uni Brown; his sister Joyce Stanchfield and brother-in-law Gene; his brothers Keith Brown and Craig Brown, both with their wives Linda; three grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his loyal dog, Munchkin.
Gary’s adventurous spirit, thirst for knowledge, and intelligent mind touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who had the privilege of sharing in his journey.
