Richard Earl Potter, 79, of Lanexa, Virginia passed away on July 9th, 2025.
He is survived by his wife Brigitte Potter; sister Sharon Fowlkes; niece Kelly Ruger; nephew George Fowlkes and wife Kerry, grandchildren Josh and Jennifer Fowlkes; stepchildren Susan & Tom Muza, Glenda Osby, Lori & Warren White, and his beloved cat “Fang” and many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
Richard is the son of Charles Civial Potter and Ione Potter. He went to New Kent High School to the 7th grade then transferred to Christ Church School in Urbanna, VA where he graduated.
Richard graduated from Hampden-Sydney College; served as an M.P. in the U.S. Army obtaining a rank of Sergeant E5, was a teacher at New Kent High, worked at Ford Motor Company for 22 years and later as a security guard at Dewitt Wallace Museum in Williamsburg, VA for 17 years. Richard was a true southern gentleman, history lover, and a passionate animal lover.
A Memorial service will be held at Corinth Baptist Church, 11650 New Kent Hwy, New Kent, VA 23124, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, beginning at 11:00 am.
