Rebecca “Becky” Leigh Weltzin, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and educator, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, in Norfolk, Virginia. Born on April 5, 1952, in Cambridge, Maryland, Becky was 73 years old at the time of her passing.
Becky’s life was marked by her dedication to education and service. She spent seven years enriching the lives of young learners, lastly as a first-grade special education teacher at Norfolk Highlands Primary School. Her passion for teaching and her gentle spirit left an indelible mark on her students and colleagues alike.
In addition to her career in education, Becky served her country with honor as a reservist in the United States Navy from 1988 to 1992. Her commitment to lifelong learning was evident in her pursuit of higher education, having earned two master’s degrees from Old Dominion University.
Becky found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid birdwatcher and enjoyed spending moments solving crossword puzzles on her iPad. Her love for nature and words reflected her inquisitive mind and serene demeanor.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Malcom Northrup and Virginia Irene Butler, and her brothers, Craig Northrup and Greg Northrup. Becky is survived by her devoted husband, Scott L. Weltzin, and her cherished children, Kathryn L. Weltzin of the home and Luis M. Font of Ormond Beach, Florida. She also leaves behind her loving sister, Gail Collins of Cambridge, Maryland.
Services to celebrate Becky’s life will be held at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to LifeNet Health Foundation, honoring her compassionate spirit and dedication to helping others.
