Edmund Victor Maynard, age 62, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Chesapeake, Virginia. Born on May 2, 1963, in New York to Victor Maynard, Edmund devoted much of his life to service, both in uniform and in spirit.
After graduating high school, Edmund joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Virginia, a place he would eventually call home. He was deployed often during his military career and remained proud of his service. Following his Navy retirement, he pursued education for a time and later worked as a security guard, continuing his quiet commitment to protecting others.
Though Edmund lived the life of a bachelor, he filled his days with meaningful friendships and family connections. He spent many weekends visiting cousins, sharing laughter, and capturing memories behind the lens of his beloved SLR camera. Photography and drawing were among his favorite pastimes. They were creative outlets that reflected his introspective nature.
Soft-spoken and introverted but never distant, Edmund was known for his gentle humor, quiet strength, and steadfast kindness. He had a rare ability to make others feel heard and cared for, never missing a chance to lend a hand or share a kind word. His warm spirit and friendly nature left lasting impressions on everyone he met.
A devoted member of Kempsville Church, Edmund was especially known for his unwavering presence in the church’s Grief Share program. He never missed a meeting, showing up not only for his own healing but for the comfort of others. His fellow congregants are already deeply feeling the absence of his supportive soul and calming presence.
Edmund is survived by his sister, Ingrid Chapman; his cousin, Mona Johnson; and a close circle of family friends who will continue to cherish his memory.
A celebration of Edmund’s life will be held at a later date.
