David VanWickler, 81, of Aylett

David VanWickler, 81, of Aylett, VA, formerly of Mathews, passed away January 15, 2025.

He was a lobsterman from Long Island who retired from the New York Telephone Company and moved south. His free time was typically enjoyed outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening. David was an accomplished craftsman with anything built from wood, whether it was a smaller project like cabinets or a big undertaking, like his home in Mathews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Erna VanWickler; older brother, Frank VanWickler, Jr.; sister, Nancy Seaman; and wife, Florence “Vicki” VanWickler. He is survived by his daughters, Mariann Franklin (Scott) and Sandra Darby (Anthony); four grandchildren, Ricky, Victoria, A.J., and Sarina; five great-grandchildren; a bonus granddaughter and additional five great-grandchildren; as well as his brother, William VanWickler; numerous nieces and nephews; and last, but not least, his beloved partner Margaret Marchiano.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 1 PM, Wednesday, January 22nd at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th St., West Point, VA with the funeral service beginning at 1 PM. Interment will follow in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery, Hayes, VA.
