Richard Allen Payne, 64, of Mattaponi, VA, formerly of Mathews, VA went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 11, 2024.
Rick worked at the Newport News Shipyard for 36 years. He was an avid gun collector, liked to cook on the grill and smoker, and enjoyed working on old cars. Rick also liked to build things and work on household projects. He was a member of Poroporone Baptist Church where he served in various roles, including security and building and grounds
.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nellie Payne; his parents Richard and Shirley Payne; five children, Randi Pilon (Ben), Damian Neel (Kate), Karen Garner (Will), Kristinne Stone (Matt) and Kevin Brown (Abby); a sister, Kerri Barger (Mike); nine grandchildren, Marcus, Kevin, Emerson, Landen, Lillie, Jacob, Adeline, Mila and Eren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 14th at Poroporone Baptist Church, 30071 The Trail, Shacklefords, VA 23156. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the church.
