Horace Odell Dennis Jr., known as “June,” was born on April 5, 1933, the eldest son of the late Mattie and Horace Odell Dennis Sr.
At an early age, he joined Grafton Baptist Church and sang with the Male Chorus. His favorite song was “Give Me A Heart Like Thine” by the Sensational Nightingales
After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and honorably served his country. He loved baseball.
He is preceded in death by five siblings, James “Tippy” Dennis, Helen Walker, Althea Godwin, and twin brothers, Ronald and Rudolph Dennis. His sister Mary Nazareth departed this life on January 24, 2024.
He is survived by seven sisters, Phyllis Jones, Christine Richardson, Gloria Sedgwick (Robert), Maxine Robinson, Sandra Robinson, and Florence Feggans (James); three sisters-in-law, Inez Dennis, Helen Dennis, Louise Dennis; lifelong friend Haywood Vernon; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service with military honor will be held at noon Friday, February 2, 2024, in Grafton Baptist Church – Harris Grove. Mr. Dennis may be viewed in the church on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. until the hour of his service. Interment will be at a later date in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
