Eddie Wilson Givens Sr. (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

Eddie Wilson Givens Sr., of Williamsburg, Virginia, concluded his earthly journey on January 20, 2024. He was born on May 23, 1936, to Howard Wilson Givens and Virginia Olivette Walker Givens, of Croaker, Virginia.

In his career, Eddie worked for Owens-Illinois as a forklift operator and production line worker. He also worked at the Raleigh Bakery in Colonial Williamsburg, where he was featured in an episode of Lassie. Additionally, Eddie had his own landscaping and mowing company for many years and was an active member of the Williamsburg Men’s Club.

Outside of work, Eddie was an outdoorsman who enjoyed pursuing his hobbies, which included hunting, bowling, fishing, landscaping, and grilling. He cherished spending time with his family and friends, always sharing laughs and creating lasting memories. Eddie had a strong and loving personality, always speaking his mind with directness and love.. These activities brought him joy and allowed him to connect with nature and his surroundings.

Eddie Wilson Givens, Sr. will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of love, strength, and directness will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Gloria G. Orange, Virginia Ann Jones, and Phyllis G. Gilliam; and brother Paul H. Givens.

Eddie is survived by his devoted wife, Zelda Givens; daughters, Montia Givens Pressey and Jacqueline Gray; sons, Eddie Wilson Givens, Jr. and Kelvin Braxton; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Pauline E. Washington, Alice G. Roberts, David A. Givens Sr., Betty J. Dumangane, Agnes E. Harris, and Shirley E. Yost; and many cousins.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at noon on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Shiloh Baptist Church – Williamsburg. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Givens may be viewed on Friday in the church beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of his service.
