George Washington Cherry departed this life on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, in his home in Williamsburg, Virginia. His life began on June 13, 1954, son of the late Roosevelt and Ella Mae Cherry.
George was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools and lived a long life surrounded by family and friends. He was a kind and loving soul with a generous heart. He was a great listener and would try to help in any way that he could.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Harrison Cherry and Eugene Silton Cherry.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, a son, Leslie Gray; two grandchildren, Iesha Jackson and Keisha Jackson; nephew, Harrison Cherry; two aunts, Elaine Walker (Sylvester) and Mary Walthall (Jan); dear friends, Debra Ford, Tanya Johnson, and Jennifer Meeks who was also his nurse; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Facial coverings are required.
