Catherine Seitz Hargan, 68, passed away quietly in her home after a lengthy battle with brain cancer on the morning of November 5th, 2022. She is survived by her husband, Ricky Hargan, children, Erin Cramer and Ryan Hargan, grandson, Logan Cramer, and her beloved blue heelers, Bode and Bailey.
Catherine was valedictorian of her high school class of 1972 and graduated Virginia Commonwealth University with a Masters of Social Work. After graduating she returned to her home county of New Kent to work in the Department of Social Services and serve the communities of New Kent and Charles City. She later became a field instructor for VCU’s School of Social Work in New Kent and trained many aspiring social workers while continuing to give back and serve her community.
After leaving the VCU field training program Cathy went to work for Bon Secours Hospice where she found her penultimate calling. She was beloved by both fellow coworkers and patients alike. She has been one of the few Social Workers to receive the SR. Elizabeth Durney, CBS Award for Excellence in Care of the Dying in 2016 from Bon Secours. She retired in 2019 with great admiration and respect from those at Bon Secours Hospice.
Per Catherine’s wishes there will be a Celebration of Life this spring which will be announced once details are set. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to New Kent Department of Social Services, PO Box 229, New Kent, VA 23124-0229 or Bon Secours Hospice.
