Ethel Lorraine Brown, 89, of Williamsburg

Ethel Lorraine Brown (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

Early Sunday morning, September 11, 2022, our dearly beloved Ethel Lorraine Wynn-Brown’s presence was requested by her heavenly Father; to leave her earthly home and enter eternity in His mansion on high.  Ethel Lorraine was born in York County, Virginia, on June 3, 1933, to the late Daisy P. and Joseph Wynn.

Ethel attended York County Public Schools and at an early age, confessed her faith and joined Oak Grove Baptist Church, York County, Virginia.  As a member of Oak Grove, Ethel served faithfully for many years as Church Clerk, as a member of the Senior Choir, Pastor’s Aid, Missionary Ministry, and performed many other duties on her faith journey.

Ethel was married to William Henry Brown, Sr., who preceded her in death, and from that union, five children were born, including Deborah, Vernette “Bern,” Wilnette “Louise,” William Jr., and Larry (deceased). Also preceded Ethel in death are her grandson, Carlos, and great-granddaughter, Kejah.

She was employed by the James City County Public School System for twenty-five years, where she achieved the position of Cafeteria Manager.  Her job as our Mom continued until her passing.  She also served as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association.

Ethel was a perfectionist, a little bossy, smiled and laughed a lot, enjoyed her children, and had a special affection for her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  She enjoyed baking fruit cakes for Christmas and received great joy from hosting the Family Christmas Celebration and attending the family cookout at the home of her niece.

The precious memories of our beloved will be missed beyond measure and will continue to blossom in the hearts of her four children, Deborah (Frank), Vernette, Wilnette, and William Jr; grandchildren, Nicole, Frank III, Natalie, and LaTallia; great-grandchildren, Shauntraniese (Austin Sr.), Ethan, Kemberly, Kendall, Ahjzah, Jayden, Kaden, Emilia, and Mason; great-great-grandchild, Austin Jr; brother, Arthur K Wynn Sr.; loving son-in-law, Ceasar Blair; and a host of loving cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022, at Whiting’s Funeral Home.  Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service.  Interment to follow in Hampton National Cemetery.  Mrs. Brown may be viewed on Monday beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the hour of her service in the funeral home.
