James Floyd Carlton, 83, of Shacklefords, VA went to be with his Lord and Savior August 10, 2022. He was an avid sports fan, who dearly loved the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Redskins, and dedicated many years to coaching the Bobcats, a woman’s softball team in West Point. James was a lifelong member of Poroporone Baptist Church, where he served in many different capacities over the years, including as a deacon.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruby Bristow and Pearl Carlton; two brothers, Tommy Bristow and Charles Carlton; and a sister, Rose Marie Stephens. He is survived by his wife, Marion Maxine Carlton; daughters, Annette Burns (Jim) and Dana Hare (Steve); son, Craig Stephens; brothers, Frank and Thomas Carlton; sisters, Diane Lacks (Leon) and Linda Sites; grandchildren, Jimmy, Jonathan, Jenna, Daniel and Andrew; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm, Saturday, August 13th at Poroporone Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm, prior to the funeral. Interment will follow in Poroporone Baptist Church Cemetery.
