Finding parking will be less of a hassle for residents living on Ireland Street in Williamsburg.
It started this week — a portion of Ireland Street will now require a blue parking pass.
The change comes as a result of concerns from residents and a shortage of permitted parking in the area, city officials said.
Ireland Street until recently had signs indicating there was no parking between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., and the closest blue permit parking was on South Boundary Street.
“These are the same blue passes that are required for South Boundary Street, it just adds several more spaces for residents to park,” said Charles Ericsson, spokesman for the Williamsburg Police.
The remainder of Ireland Street remains open to parking during the day but not between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.
“For the last couple of weeks, our parking enforcement officers have been placing informational flyers on vehicles parked on Ireland Street to inform them of the change,” Ericsson said. “The residences on Ireland Street are usually rented to students so we will allow them time to obtain their passes when they return to school for the year.”
Residents or owners on streets labeled as residential parking may buy a parking permit.
Those wishing to buy a permit must provide their DMV registration, with the vehicle in their name or a close family member’s name. Tenants’ names must also be on a landlord-tenant list the landlord has submitted to the city’s Finance Department. If not, a copy of the lease will be required, officials said.
The parking permits expire Aug. 31, 2021. New permits cost $5 each.
