Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools will be closed Friday in anticipation of Hurricane Florence’s effects on the Historic Triangle.
“Although hurricane conditions are not in our forecast, the saturated ground and afternoon wind gusts, which are projected to reach 30 mph, could lead to downed trees,” the school district said in a news release. “Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, schools and offices will be closed tomorrow. We appreciate your flexibility as we deal with this unprecedented weather event.”
WJCC schools closed Wednesday but reopened Thursday after Hurricane Florence turned toward southern North Carolina.
York County schools are closed until further notice because of mandatory evacuations from Zone A portions of the county.
In addition, all Bay Rivers District high school football games scheduled for Friday and Saturday have been postponed indefinitely because of the storm.
