Update 6 p.m. Monday:
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Monday evening.
According to the NWS, snow accumulations of 2 inches are possible.
The advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. Monday. Drivers are advised to prepare for slippery roads.
Original story:
While parts of Virginia are seeing substantial snow, Greater Williamsburg will be spared the worst of it.
Rain is in the forecast for the Historic Triangle Monday, but there is a chance some of that could turn to winter weather later in the day, according to the National Weather Service.
“[We] could see a brief period of snow later today, but it’s going to amount to less than half an inch,” said Eswar Iyer, meteorologist with the Wakefield Office of the NWS.
Temperatures will remain above freezing Monday evening, he added, and there will be “no impact” to the roads. Any accumulation will be on grass or elevated surfaces.
Central and western Virginia are seeing reports of five inches of snow in some places, Iyer said, but Greater Williamsburg will see mostly rain.
“Its going to pick up between 2 and 8 p.m.,” Iyer said.
The weather will clear in the early morning hours Tuesday, the National Weather Service predicts.
