HAMPTON— The Hampton Roads Convention Centre will host the 37th annual Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival from Feb. 26 to March 1.
Open to the public, this event is produced by Mancuso Show Management, Inc. According to Visit Hampton, the event is one of the largest running quilt festivals in the United States.
“Quilting is America stitched into cloth–many hands, many stories, many enduring fabrics. As we celebrate 250 years of our nation, this quilt festival reminds us that unity, creativity, and shared history are what truly bind us together,” said Gwen Raczak, Marketing and Events Coordinator of MSM, Inc., about the upcoming event.
This year’s quilt competition is themed “Connected by Threads for 250 Years.” Visit Hampton notes that entrants looking to win Best Interpretation of Theme will show how they’ve connected to their community through their art. Quilt entries will be featured in three competitions: Full Size – Innovative and Traditional categories, Mid-Century Mod/Modern and Wall Quilts.
Visit Hampton says the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival is a mecca for quilters and sewing enthusiasts, featuring over 1000 quilts, wearables, and textile works of art on display. In addition, the Merchants Mall includes retail booths with all the best fabrics, notions, machines, and tools.
For the avid learners, workshops and lectures by an internationally renowned faculty offer an awesome opportunity to learn new techniques. The Golden Thimble Needlework Guild’s demos, Quilt-O game night, and a fashion show by a local wearable artist, Meryl Ann Butler, make this event a must-see.
The event will run Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission is $20 Thursday through Saturday with re-admittance included, and $18 on Sunday only. Guests under 16 are free.
