HAMPTON — Locals will get a chance to perform or spectate multiple acts of fitness.

The Life’s a Beach Triathlon is returning for its 6th year starting at 8 a.m. on June 9 at Buckroe Beach.

The event will include a 200-yard swim, a 5-mile “fat tire” bike ride and a 2-mile beach run, according to a news release from the organizer. “Fat tire” bikes include beach cruisers and mountain bikes.

“We strive to break down the barriers most people encounter when they consider attempting a triathlon,” said Life’s a Beach Triathlon founder, Kip Koelsch, in a news release. “The Life’s A Beach Triathlon does that first with manageable distances. We allow participants to use ‘aids’ on the swim-boogie boards, fins, even inner tubes. There is no need for a special racing bike — most people use beach cruisers or mountain bikes. We’ve even had an adult tricycle decorated as a 15-foot shark! I’m excited to be back in Hampton for our sixth year and proud of the following we’ve built for ‘fun triathlon that almost anyone can finish.’”

Registration is $83 and $90 the day of the event. Online registration closes on May 30 at 11:59 p.m.
