HISTORIC TRIANGLE— Grab your bike and helmet and enjoy a vehicle-free morning on the Colonial Parkway! Colonial National Historical Park, together with BikeWalk Williamsburg and Williamsburg Area Bicyclists, will open a seven-mile stretch of the historic roadway near Jamestown Island for running, walking, and biking on Saturday, May 2, from 7 a.m. to noon.

Family activities and free bike safety checks will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We are excited to once again offer this unique opportunity for visitors of all ages to enjoy the parkway by pedal or by foot in a safe and fun way,” said Superintendent Jerri Marr. “We are also grateful for the work BikeWalk Williamsburg and Williamsburg Area Bicyclists have done to make this day happen.”

Park staff will close the Colonial Parkway to all vehicle access between Hwy 199/Kingsport and Rt. 359 at Jamestown starting at 6 a.m., with reopening scheduled for 1 p.m. During this time, vehicles may continue to access Jamestown Island via Jamestown Road.

Parking and restrooms will be available at the Jamestown Visitor Center on Jamestown Island and at the Jamestown Settlement, located at 2110 Jamestown Road.

All participants age 16 and older are required to purchase a visitor entrance pass to recreate on the Colonial Parkway. This pass provides access to all resources managed by the park for seven consecutive days and may be purchased on-site or at recreation.gov. America the Beautiful passes and Park Annual passes will also be honored and available for purchase on site.

The Colonial Parkway is a 23-mile scenic roadway stretching from the York River at Yorktown to the James River at Jamestown. It connects Virginia’s historic triangle: Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown. It is used by millions of travelers annually to access and enjoy the area’s natural and cultural beauty.
