Veterans Day Closures Around the Historic Triangle

HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Veterans Day is observed Tuesday, Nov. 11. Here is how local offices and services are impacted by the federal holiday.

James City County

James City County said offices, facilities, services, libraries and courts will observe the following schedule for Veterans Day:

County Offices:
Closed Nov. 11.

James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center:
Open Nov. 11.

Parks:
All County parks are open year-round.

Park Stores and Guest Services Offices:
Open Nov. 11.

Jolly Pond Road and Toano Convenience Centers:
Open Nov. 11.

Tewning Road Convenience Center:
Open Nov. 11

Garbage Transfer Station:
Open Nov. 11.

Curbside Recycling:
No change.

Libraries:
Closed Nov. 11.

Courts:
Closed Nov. 11.

City of Poquoson

The City of Poquoson said Non-Emergency Offices will be closed on Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day. A Veteran’s Day Ceremony, hosted by the American Legion, will be held at 11 a.m. at City Hall.

City of Williamsburg

The City of Williamsburg will observe Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11. All City offices will be closed. 

The city said Quarterpath Recreation Center will open at 4:30 p.m. for scheduled programming. Waller Mill Park will follow normal operating hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Garbage and recycling will be collected on their regular schedules Monday and Tuesday, according to the city. Call 757-220-2331 for water emergencies after hours, weekends and holidays. More information can be found at williamsburgva.gov/publicworks. 

The City Council Work Session and City Council Business Meeting will not be affected by the holiday, the city said. The work session is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, and the Business Meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13. Both are held in the Stryker Center. 

Those who need to pay a city bill when offices are closed are encouraged to use the 24-hour bill payment drop box located at the front of the Municipal Building for city transactions. Payments can also be made online. The city cautions drop box payments made on Tuesday, Nov. 11, will not be posted until Wednesday, Nov. 12. 

York County

The county said the following offices will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day:

  • County offices
  • Courts
  • Libraries
  • Waste Management Center Offices
  • York-Poquoson Social Services

Garbage collection will not be affected by the holiday, the county said. The VPPSA Composting Facility and the drop-off centers for garbage and recycling will remain open. Citizens needing assistance are reminded to submit requests through the Customer Service Request Portal at yorkcounty.gov/requests.
