Katherine A. Rowe will be sworn in as William & Mary’s 28th president by Gov. Ralph Northam during a ceremony July 2 in the university’s Wren Building.

The ceremony will begin at noon in the Great Hall of the Wren. It is open to the campus community and public, though seating is limited. The event will also be livestreamed on the William & Mary website and the university’s Facebook page.

On Feb. 20, William & Mary’s Board of Visitors unanimously elected Rowe, a leader in digital innovation in higher education and provost of Smith College, to succeed President Taylor Reveley, who is retiring June 30 after a decade leading the university. While the swearing-in ceremony takes place July 2, Rowe’s tenure as president officially begins July 1.

The university will hold an official inauguration celebration for Rowe during the spring 2019 semester.
