
Summer is starting to heat up, and James City County Parks and Recreation is opening its outdoor pools so residents can cool off.
James City County has two outdoor pools: at Chickahominy Riverfront Park, 1350 John Tyler Highway, and at Upper County Park, 180 Leisure Road.
Both pools are open through Sept. 3. The schedule is as follows:
- Through June 17: Noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays only.
- June 18-Aug. 5: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
The Chickahominy Riverfront Park pool also will be open from noon to 6 p.m. daily Aug. 6- Sept. 3.
Upper County Park pool will be open during the following times:
- Aug. 6-16: Noon to 6 p.m. daily.
- Aug. 17-30: Noon to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
- Aug. 31- Sept. 3: Noon to 6 p.m. daily.
There will also be special events over the summer with different pool hours:
- June 9: 6 to 8 p.m., Season passholder splash party, Chickahominy Riverfront Park (season passholders only).
- July 4: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fourth of July celebration, both pools.
- July 21: 6 to 9 p.m, family splash party, Chickahominy Riverfront Park.
- Aug. 4: 6 to 9 p.m., family splash party, Upper County Park.
Season passes can be purchased on the James City County Parks and Recreation website or at the James City County Recreation Center, 5301 Longhill Road. Passes can also be purchased at the pool locations, with different prices based on age and residency:
- Children 5 and younger: Free.
- Youth (ages 6-17): $40 resident, $65 non-resident.
- Adults (ages 18-54): $45 resident, $65 non-resident.
- Seniors (ages 55 and over,): $40 resident, $65 non-resident.
Family passes are also available for $80 for residents and $120 for non-residents, but these are only limited to immediate family members living in the same household.
Individual entry fees are as follows:
- Children five and younger: Free.
- Youth (ages 6-17): $3 resident, $5 non-resident
- Adults (18-54): $4 resident, $6 non-resident
- Seniors (55 and older): $3 resident, $5 non-resident.
James City County Parks and Recreation advises calling pools ahead of time to learn about closings based on inclement weather.
