Update 12:00 p.m.: All but 190 customers have had their power restored, Dominion Energy spokeswoman Bonita Harris said. 1095 customers had their power back on by 9:20 a.m., and Dare Elementary’s power was restored by 11:27 a.m.
The remaining customers will have their power restored when Dominion crews fix the pole.
Original story: Dare Elementary dismissed students early Wednesday because of a power outage.
The York County School Division said students would be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, as the school is without power.
Afternoon preschool and afternoon champions will also be cancelled.
Dominion Energy spokeswoman Bonita Harris said the power outage was caused due to a damaged pole on Dare Road, near the Brandywine subdivision, just before 9 a.m., initially affecting about 1900 customers. As of 11:20 a.m., the number of customers without power had been reduced to 823.
“Our crew has isolated that pole and are trying to get all the other customers back on,” Harris said.
Harris said power was restored to Dare Elementary at 11:27 a.m.
The York County School Division did not immediately respond to request for comment.
