NEWPORT NEWS — Soundscapes will bring together students, families, and community members for its annual Community Concert, part of CNU’s Virginia Community Music Festival, in a powerful celebration of music, identity, and the stories that shape our nation.

This year’s theme, “We Are America’s Story,” reflects the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States and highlights the voices and experiences of the young musicians who make up the Soundscapes community. The concert will feature performances by nearly every Soundscapes’ ensemble, showcasing the remarkable breadth of the organization’s programming and the diverse journeys of the students it serves. More than a concert, the event will also incorporate a multimedia storytelling element.

Throughout the program, videos featuring students, teachers, and parents will share personal reflections on their experiences with Soundscapes, illustrating how music, mentorship, and opportunity have shaped their lives and how their stories contribute to the larger American narrative.

“Every student who walks through our doors brings a story with them,” said Soundscapes Executive Director Carol Minter. “When we listen to one another, we begin to understand that the American story is not just history. It’s something we’re writing together every day.”

Community members are invited to attend this inspiring celebration of music, storytelling, and the next generation of artists and leaders.

The event will take place at the Ferguson Center for the Arts on April 26 at 3 p.m.
