WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center has expanded its popular Camera to Brush & Beyond show into a full exhibit this year for the first time.

The show opens to the public on Wednesday, July 30, and runs through Sept. 12.

“This show has been wildly popular with our photographers, artists, and visitors for many years, but was limited to our small Fireside Gallery space,” said Apryl Altman, program chair. “This year, we are expanding it into our much larger main and middle galleries. It’s great fun to see the interpretations of our photographers’ work by our artists.”

WCAC said that for the Camera to Brush & Beyond show, participating WCAC member photographers submit one or more photographs to the center to be pooled with other members’ photographs. Artists and artisans then choose a photograph they wish to creatively interpret in their own style and medium. In the exhibit, the selected photograph is hung next to its interpretation.

“Any type of medium can be used in the interpretation, even three-dimensional work such as fiber art, jewelry and ceramics,” explained Altman. “It’s amazing what our members come up with!”

WCAC members were also invited to submit pieces for the “Study of Trees” exhibit in the Fireside Gallery in their choice of medium and style. Next to the Fireside Gallery is the Artisan Corner, featuring 3-D art such as pottery, jewelry, fiber art and more.

WCAC is free and open to the public. All artwork is for sale. WCAC is located in the Blue Building at 110 Westover Ave. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.  For more information about its exhibits and programs, visit its website at visitWCAC.org.
