YORK COUNTY — York County Fire and Life Safety is investigating the cause of a fire at Harper’s Station, a senior living community located in the 4500 block of Victory Boulevard, Friday morning.
According to officials, personnel from the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety responded to reports of heavy smoke at the senior living facility shortly before 8 a.m. Aug. 29
Fire and rescue units arrived to encounter significant smoke on one floor of the facility. The source was traced to a fire in the kitchen area of a residential unit, which had been extinguished before their arrival by the facility’s maintenance staff, according to fire officials. Crews began ventilating the building to clear the remaining smoke.
The fire was contained to a single unit and caused only minor damage, according to officials. As a precaution, residents in the affected hallways were either temporarily relocated to the building’s cafeteria or sheltered in place.
No injuries were reported.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by the Newport News Fire Department and Langley Air Force Base Fire Department.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
