James City County Personal Property/Real Estate Taxes Due June 5

(James City County)

JAMES CITY COUNTY — James City County is reminding residents that their personal property and real estate tax bills have been mailed and are due Monday, June 5.

Personal Property Taxes

The county notes that in 2022, the Board of Supervisors approved a one-year reduction in the assessment percentage used to assess vehicles from 100% to 75% of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) value. This was done in order to provide tax relief from an unprecedented increase in the values of used vehicles. That percentage has returned to 100% for 2023.

Real Estate Taxes

Real estate tax invoices have also been mailed to all real estate owners. The county advises that if an escrow is established for a property, residents should check their monthly mortgage statement to ensure funds are in escrow. A reduction in the real estate tax rate from $.84 to $.83/per $100 was approved by the Board of Supervisors to continue through June 30, the end of Fiscal Year 23.

If a tax bill has not been received by May 10, residents should call the Treasurer’s Office at 757-253-6705. The county notes that taxes are still due even if a bill was not received.
