VIRGINIA BEACH — Southsiders with a sweet tooth have a reason to scream for ice cream.
Haagen-Dazs at the Lynnhaven Mall will serve free ice cream Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. for its annual free cone day.
Customers can choose one kiddie-scoop of ice cream, sorbet or gelato in a cup, sugar cone or cake cone. The free scoop is limited to one per guest, according to its website.
The company is serving free ice cream to raise awareness for depleting honey bee populations by asking people to plant gardens with native wildflowers, trees and more in their yards, according to the website.
“One-third of the world’s crops depend on pollinators such as honey bees, as do one-third of Haagen-Dazs’ ice cream flavors,” Kerry McLaughlin, Haagen-Dazs brand content and strategy lead, said in a press release.
“Bees are being threatened on a variety of fronts and as a brand, we recognize the important role we must play to promote sustainable farming practices and ensure pollinators continue to enrich the planet.”
