Police are searching for one person or more believed to have vandalized and broke into Shorty’s Diner on Merrimac Trail Sunday, damaging the eatery’s video monitoring system and ransacking the cash registers, according to a York Poquoson Sheriff’s Office report.
The incident occurred April 9 during the overnight hours at the popular diner located in the James-York Plaza, the site of another report of vandalism and graffiti on two businesses within the plaza, which police believe also happened on the same night, according to Lt. Dennis Ivey.
Police believe a person or more broke into the Shorty’s by forcing open the back door. Once inside, the person allegedly smashed the video system’s monitor and spray-painted the exterior cameras.
The alleged party also ransacked the cash registers and took an undisclosed amount of money.
