Boys soccer update: First Colonial, Ocean Lakes stay undefeated

Welcome to Southside Daily’s look at the best high school boys soccer teams by record in Virginia Beach.

First Colonial’s offensive attack (6.6 goals per game) has yet to be contained. Patriots senior attack duo Ian Roberts and Jaylen Thompson have combined for 21 goals and 15 assists in eight games. They kick-off conference play Friday against Cox.

Ocean Lakes continued its torrid undefeated start with a 5-1 win Tuesday over Chesapeake power Grassfield. The Dolphins’ high-powered offense (4.5 goals per game) is backed by a lock-down defense (allowed just four goals in nine games) anchored by goalkeeper Colton Demetriou.

Cox has rattled off four straight wins while outscoring opponents 13-4. The Falcons get the first conference crack at the Dolphins’ unbeaten record on Friday.

Landstown edged Princess Anne 1-0 on Monday and gets a second big test this week in its conference home opener Friday against Kellam. The Eagles have posted 21 goals in their five consecutive shutout victories.

Kellam rebounded with three consecutive wins against Green Run, Kempsville and Great Bridge after its lone loss last week to Princess Anne. The Knights have outscored opponents 40-5 but open conference play Friday against the Eagles, who have been stout defensively of late.

Records as of Thursday, April 28:

  • First Colonial (8-0)
  • Ocean Lakes (10-0)
  • Cox (7-2)
  • Landstown (7-1)
  • Kellam (7-1-1)
