Hometown: MARTIN’S donates $90K to Local Charities, Schools

Williamsburg MARTIN’S store manager Dean Sculthorpe with Michele Benson, food sourcing manager for Food Bank of Virginia Peninsula, with MARTIN’S donation of 100 hunger relief boxes purchased by customers and associates to help feed those in need in Williamsburg.

MARTIN’S donated over $90,000 to several nonprofits and schools in Williamsburg last year.

As part of its Living Here, Giving Here program, the grocery chain donated a total of $2.2 million in both Richmond and Williamsburg combined, with $90,000 shared with groups in the greater Williamsburg area.

“MARTIN’S is so proud to be part of the vibrant Richmond and Williamsburg communities, and I want to thank all of our associates for their passion and enthusiasm as we brought our charitable giving to a new height in 2012,” said Jim Scanlon, the company’s regional vice president.

“Along with our associates, customers, and vendors, we believe we can make a difference in the lives of children and help eradicate hunger within the neighborhoods we serve.”

Some of the major community partners MARTIN’S supported included:

  • A Gift from Ben
  • Food Bank of Virginia Peninsula
  • Heritage Humane Society
  • Numerous local not-for-profit organizations
  • Salvation Army of Williamsburg
  • United Way of Greater Williamsburg
  • USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia
  • Local Williamsburg area schools who participated in MARTIN’S A+ School Rewards
