A trio of local residents are among 1500 Red Cross Disaster Relief Volunteers who have deployed in advance of Hurricane Isaac.

Randy Hare and John Mormon, both from Williamsburg, departed Monday afternoon for Port Allen, Louisiana with the Coastal Virginia Region’s Emergency Response Vehicle. Once Isaac clears the area, Hare and Mormon will drive the ERV through affected neighborhoods, distributing hot meals, snacks, water and emergency supplies.

Linda James, also from Williamsburg, has headed to Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She will be the Red Cross liaison with local government agencies, including emergency management.

Last week Barry Koffroth and Ken Sharp, volunteers from the American Red Cross Coastal Virginia Region’s Williamsburg office, flew to Orlando, Fla. where they were assigned to disaster assessment operations, should the expected storm require that.

Communications director Rob Shapiro says volunteers are typically deployed for about two weeks, but will stay on as needed.
