Led by quarterback Ramsey Hayyat, who threw three touchdowns, York cruised to a commanding 44-6 victory against Colonial Heights during Saturday’s first-round game in the Group 3A playoffs.

Hayyat got the Falcons on the board early in the first quarter after connecting on a 59-yard touchdown with Da’Shaun Jones. A Logan Weis 19-yard field goal later in the quarter put the Falcons up 10-0.

York running back Devin Campbell capped the first quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run to give York an early 17-0 advantage over the Colonials.

The lone York touchdown in the second quarter came off Hayyat’s second touchdown pass of the game, this time a 56-yarder to Luke Gilbert. The second-quarter touchdown put York on top 23-0 at the half.

The third quarter was more of the same as York continued to pile on the points. Hayyat connected with Gilbert for a second time on a 28-yard touchdown pass. A third-quarter rushing touchdown by Deondre Lightfoot extended York’s rout.

A final fourth-quarter touchdown by Matt Wakelyn secured the victory for York (7-4), which advances to take on Phoebus in the second round.

Phoebus Routs Tabb to End Tigers’ Season

Tabb’s football season came to a disappointing close Saturday afternoon as the Tigers fell 39-0 to Phoebus in the first round of the Group 3A East tournament.

The Phantoms dominated on offense, outgaining Tabb 421-78, while stifling the Tabb offense and forcing three turnovers in the game.

Phoebus got on the board with 5:47 left in the first quarter when Jaylen Holloway found the end zone on a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Phantoms up 6-0.

A slow second quarter saw its only action with two seconds left to play in the first half. Phoebus quarterback Justin Wright completed a 32-yard pass to wide receiver Andre Jackson for a touchdown. A failed two-point conversion resulted in a 12-0 halftime advantage for Phoebus.

The Phantoms’ offense exploded in the third quarter for a trio of touchdowns. The first, coming with 7:21 left in the quarter, was a JoMari Becnel 8-yard touchdown scamper. A fumble by Tabb on its ensuing possession set up a 19-yard touchdown run by Daniel Wright.

Phoebus’ final third-quarter touchdown was a 54-yard touchdown pass from Justin Wright to Elijah Nelson that put the Phantoms up 33-0. A fourth quarter touchdown pass by Justin Wright, his third of the game, to Cire Greene sealed the 39-0 win for Phoebus over the Tigers.
