Lafayette’s boys and girls cross-country teams took first place during a quad meet at Jamestown High School on Wednesday.

On the boys side, the Rams took the top three spots with Konrad Steck taking first place in a time of 16:41. Following Steck was Cade Moreno (16:58) and Liam Bonga (16:59).

“It’s definitely a confidence booster to go from there and know that you’ve beat these kids,” Steck said of opening his season with a win.

Lafayette defeated Jamestown by 13 points and Warhill by five points. Tabb and Lafayette agreed not to compete head-to-head during the meet.

Tabb defeated Jamestown by 29 points, but lost to Warhill by 11 points. The Lions defeated Jamestown by 25 points in the final head-to-head matchup.

Warhill’s Daniel Cretney was the top Warhill scorer with a time of 17:01 and a fourth-place finish. He was immediately followed by his teammate Matthew Hrncir.

Tabb’s top runner was Preston Klekar, who took sixth place in a time of 17:16, while Jamestown’s best performer was Cameron Coates, who took 14th in a time of 18:07.

In the girls race, Lafayette saw similar success to their male counterparts by placing multiple runners toward the top of the leaderboard.

While Lafayette’s Delaney Savedge (18:54) and Brooke Crookston (19:42) took second and third place overall, Tabb’s Lindsey Blanks claimed the top spot in a time of 18:14.

“I felt really good. The first two miles especially felt really nice,” Blanks said after the race. “I wasn’t really focused too much on the time because I had never run this course before. I ended up going way faster than I thought and I was just trying to hold on.”

Blanks also echoed the sentiments of Steck, saying a win to start the season was a confidence booster.

Warhill’s top girl runner was Hannah Hrncir, who took sixth place in a time of 20:09. Jamestown was led by Kathleen Yates, who finished fourth in a time of 19:46.
