WILLIAMSBURG — The ConVivial pop-culture and science fiction convention opened its doors at Williamsburg’s Clarion Hotel on Jan. 12-14, featuring a variety of panels and events including live music, a costume contest, and a blanket fort competition.

This was the convention’s inaugural year, and approximately 400 people were in attendance over the weekend, with organizers reporting convention guests and attendees already wanting to return for next year’s convention.

“It ended up being an extremely relaxing atmosphere, and people had lots of fun,” said ConVivial Chair Jennifer Carter. “We’ve got 29 people pre-registered for next year already.”

Carter also mentioned that several guests had told her that the convention was described as a “cozy con.”

“They really enjoyed the vibe and being able to have fun all weekend and enjoy themselves, but not rushing from one place to the other,” Carter added. “Everyone was very kind and respectful to one another and it was great.”

ConVivial has yet to determine a date and location for its 2025 convention. For all up-to-date information, visit the convention’s official website.
