50th Anniversary of the CB&W Model Railroad

YORKTOWN — The Chesapeake Bay & Western Model Railroad Club is hosting an open house to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the organization July 22 and 23.

The CB&W’s initial spike was celebrated in July 1973 at 13 Dare Road, near the Grafton Hobby Center, when 28 model railroad enthusiasts banded together to build on their respective love of model railroading.

The club has prospered and grown. Today, the club’s members run trains — some as long as 100 cars — over 32 scale miles of track in a layout spanning Phoebus in the East to French Creek in the mountains of West Virginia.

The model is a continuous work in progress. The group notes it is fortunate to have members skilled in electrical, scenery, and prototype operations.

The open house will be on Saturday, July 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and then Sunday, July 23 from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free for visitors. For more information about the CB&W Model Railroad, visit the official website.
