WILLIAMSBURG — Veteran Williamsburg restauranteurs are preparing for the soft opening of their newest Mediterranean eatery.

Meyhane Kitchen and Bar, located at 5269 John Tyler Hwy. in Williamsburg Crossing Shopping Center, will open its doors to the public for the first time on Friday, April 1 as it debuts its authentic Mediterranean, Greek, and Turkish cuisines.

Meyhane and its sister restaurant, Anatolia Bar & Grill in New Town, are owned and operated by Sevan & Burcu Yesilcimen. According to the new restaurant’s website, the new enterprise will compliment the New Town location.

“There will not be any similar items on the menus,” Burcu said of the differences between the two restaurants.

The name “Meyhane” derives from the Persian words, “mey” (which translates to wine) and “khaneh” (which means house). The term “meyhane” has been used for restaurants and bars in seaside cities on the Mediterranean dating back to the Byzantine Empire.

Burcu said that she and her husband want the new restaurant to feel like a home for diners; a place where they can sit and enjoy the food and ambiance for as long as they would like. It will also feature live entertainment on the weekends in the form of belly dancers.

Another feature of Meyhane will be its late hours. It will be open until midnight Tuesday through Thursday and until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. The entire menu will be available while the doors are open.

Burcu said that all of the tables have been reserved for its soft opening this Friday, but there are still some available for Saturday and Sunday.

Reservations can be made on the restaurant’s website or by calling (757) 812-3785.

A grand opening date has not been set.
