With profound love and immeasurable gratitude, we celebrate the life of Cynthia Jimenez Cabales, who entered eternal rest on June 27, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born on September 9, 1949, in Kawit, Cavite, Philippines, Cynthia’s journey was one marked by devotion, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. She passed away peacefully in Norfolk, Virginia, surrounded by her loving family.
She was a proud alumna of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Accountancy in 1972. Shortly after graduation, she married and began her journey as a devoted US Navy wife and mother. While raising her four children, Cynthia found creative ways to support her growing family—crafting and selling handmade jewelry and lumpia from home, and later working as a secretary with Public Works and eventually the IRS. After retiring from the IRS, Cynthia continued to serve her community by volunteering as a tax preparer, always upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
Cynthia’s deep faith guided her throughout her life, finding comfort and community within the Catholic Church. Each morning began with Mass, followed by the Angelus prayer at noon and the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3pm. She was also instrumental to the Kawit Families of Tidewater’s annual celebration of honoring her hometown’s Patron Saint, St. Mary Magdalene by coordinating, planning, and hosting the annual fiesta.
Her life was marked by compassion and service. Known for her heartfelt cooking, she lovingly prepared meals for homebound friends and nursing home residents, offering not just food but warmth and companionship. She was the first person anyone would call in a time of need—always ready to help without hesitation. Her quiet generosity and care touched many and will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
Cynthia delighted in family gatherings and took great care in organizing unforgettable trips for her children and grandchildren. She loved finding and renting spacious homes where everyone could be together—settings filled with laughter, shared meals, and lasting memories. She followed her grandchildren’s accomplishments with deep pride, celebrating their academic awards, athletic victories, and musical performances with heartfelt joy and unwavering support.
Cynthia embraced life’s simple pleasures. She cherished playing bingo with her beloved siblings, enjoyed the thrill of penny slots at Rivers Casino, and treasured visits to California to spend time with her closest friends—often followed by trips to Las Vegas. In recent years, cruising became her favorite way to travel, and she was especially looking forward to an upcoming Disney cruise with her family this August.
Cynthia’s legacy is beautifully woven into the lives of her devoted husband of 53 years, Florante; her beloved children, Anna (Kevin) Tucker, Gilburt (Janette) Cabales, Louella (Reuben) Dio, and Jane (Justin) Frank; and her cherished grandchildren, who were her everything. She was a doting Lola to Drake, Andrew, Jalyn, Maylene, Meleana, Isabelle, RJ, Patrick, Jackson, Alexis, Kailee, Jaiden, Sayuri, Gianna, Anthony, Xavier, Blaise, and great-grandchildren Sebastian and Callahan. She is also survived by her stepmother, Ponciana Jimenez, and her siblings: Antonio Jimenez, Estrella Jones, Rowena Jimenez, Alicia Jimenez, Eufemio Jimenez, Miriam (Joselito) Guieb, Josefino Jimenez, Armando (Malou) Jimenez, Editha (Arnold) Mendoza, Maricel (Alfred) Eldridge, Kathleen Chavez, and Eliza (Sebastian) Jimenez. Her loyal dog, Bradley, was always by her side. Cynthia’s warmth, strength, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by countless nieces, nephews, extended family, community members, and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her father, Alfredo Jimenez; mother, Dionisia Jimenez; son, Jefferson Cabales; brother, Artemio Jimenez; and sisters, Felicitas Dondonayos and Blanquita Jimenez.
