Nancy Harris Williams, 92, of Yorktown

Mrs. Nancy Harris Williams age 92 of Yorktown VA passed away on Saturday May 18th 2025 at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News VA.

Nancy was born in Warwick County, Virginia on May 13th 1933. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. Allen Copeland Harris and Helen Schell Harris of Harris Grove, York County Virginia and the Oldest Sister of Mr. Allen Copland Harris, Jr.

Nancy graduated from Poquoson High School in 1951 and later graduated from the College of William and Mary with a degree in education. She later taught for 33 years, spending most of her time as a 12th grade English Teacher at Warwick High School in Newport News, VA. During her tenure at Warwick, she helped shape the lives of thousands of students, some who went on to become leaders, doctors, judges, lawyers, and outstanding citizens.

In 1954, she married Mr. Preston Scott Williams of Cheriton, VA. Together they raised 2 sons, Bryant and Scott Williams who both reside in Yorktown, VA today. As a police officer’s wife during the turbulent 60’s and 70’s, many times Nancy was placed in the role of handling the family while her husband was away dealing with public unrest, protest, or labor strike at the shipyard or in the coal fields of Virginia. She possessed a servants heart and was an excellent educator, provider and problem solver.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Preston Scott Williams, her father Allen Copeland Harris, her mother Helen Schell Harris, and her brother Allen Copland Harris Jr. She is survived by her sons Bryant Williams and Scott Williams.

Later in life she fully embraced the role of Grammy and enjoyed spending time with her 3 granddaughters Lacey, Lilly, and Jocelyn. Furthermore, she loved and appreciated her daughter in laws Jacqui Williams (Bryant) and Catharine Williams (Scott) and embraced them as her own. She was blessed to have the love and care of Cashawn Taliferro who was not just her nurse and caregiver, but a friend and daughter. She also leaves her lifelong friend and confidant Claudette Cooke who helped her look after her family and raise the boys.

Nancy possessed a love for reading, antiques, and she was a devout fan of the Los Angelas Dodgers. During the season, you could catch her in the evening at home watching her Boys in Blue and giving her advise to the players through the television screen. Nancy loved her community and was a member of the Yorktown Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter, attended Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends for a Wake on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Crooks Memorial Church located at 204 Cook Road, Yorktown, VA from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. A Funeral Service will take place on Friday May 23, 2025 at 1:30 PM in Crooks Memorial Church located at 204 Cook Road, Yorktown, Va. with burial after at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, VA. After the burial please return to the church for a repass with the family.
