Gary Weil, 73, of West Point, VA, born in Kingston, New York, ended his battle with cancer and entered eternal rest on March 22, 2025. Gary was a veteran of the United States Navy, as well as the Army. This was a part of his life in which he held great pride. He deeply valued all that was instilled in him from his days in the service.
Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing with his best friend Bobby Fox, and throwing a good outdoor BBQ with family and friends. He loved to laugh and was known as a jokester; he especially enjoyed picking on his daughter. Gary often said he was “yankee born and southern bred”. He loved to cook his wild game like venison stew, and his ole time favorite, black eyed peas and stewed tomatoes.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Conrad; brother, Wayne; and his three loving dogs, Samson, Duke and Willey.
He is survived by his wife, Claire; loving daughter, Carmen Mayfield (Joe); loving brothers, Arthur and Troy Hanvey; numerous nieces and nephews; and two loving grandsons, Owen and VJ.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM, Thursday, March 27th at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th St., West Point, VA with the memorial service beginning at 6 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Indian Rivers Humane Society, PO Box 264, Aylett, VA 23009.
